I know many people on this board believe homosexual marriage is wrong and insulting to marriage. What are your opinions on divorce?

You know, what's interesting is that the states with the worst sanctions against gay men and lesbians (the "red states") have the highest rate of divorce. The "blue states" have the lowest.

And- the state with the lowest rate of divorce? It's Massachusetts- the only country that allows full marriage equality!

How's that for gay folks deteriorating the sanctity of marriage?

I also believe in divorce if there is abuse. I believe the Bible allows for this, though I can't think of chapter and verse at the moment. I also think it is ok to divorce someone if you are unequally yoked with a non-believer.

Gay people DO ruin the sanctity of marriage. Just because straight people aren't perfect doesn't mean it's ok to be gay. Marriage is supposed to be a Holy thing prescribed by God. Genesis 2:24.
Homosexuality is a sin. Romans 1:18-32.

Tra, although I realize you and I will never agree on the issue of marriage equality, I would really like to know just HOW marriage equality would "ruin the sanctity of marriage." What does it do, exactly? I'm not trying to be rude, just trying to understand your point of view.

Non-Christians get married all the time. Do you believe that atheists should not get married, since their marriages aren't religious?

I see nothing whatsoever wrong with divorce. Several of my friends parents are divorced, and I have nothing wrong with that. It isn't their fault that their parents do not get along anymore, and the kids shouldn't be punished for it.

Of COURSE the kids shouldn't be punished!

It's not only that gay marriages will ruin the sanctity of marriage, it's that gay relationships are wrong. If I don't believe people should be allowed to have a man/man or woman/woman relationship at all, why would I think it would be ok for them to marry?

Marriage was specifically prescribed for a man/woman relationship in the Bible. Read all of Genesis 2 about Adam and Eve, specifically Genesis 2:24.

Tra, you really need to stop spouting off passages from the Bible and assuming we'll look up the reference. I don't own a Bible, so I have no idea what the passage actually says that you refer to.

I'm sure you can find a Bible online. Project Gutenberg has one in Spanish, so I'm sure it will have one in English. Look at gutenberg.org

I wouldn't say divorce is a sin, per se...but I do think there ought to be a good reason for having one, preferably adultrey or abuse. I'm conflicted on this one, because I wouldn't want to have to stay married to someone I didn't love anymore and spend the rest of my life miserable...but on the other hand I think that divorce is too common in our society and sometimes people chose it over truly trying to make the marriage work.

BTW - Hi! I'm from the AG Fans board! Thanks for the invite, Tra...this board looks like it's going to be very interesting!
